The oasis of the desert
Thanks to the renewed project funding from Heike and Peter, we were able to successfully complete another aid project to improve the sustainable water supply in a community in Tharparkar, Sindh, that is particularly affected by water scarcity.
The project's goal was to provide the affected families with long-term access to a reliable and clean water source. Due to the extreme climatic conditions and temperatures frequently exceeding 45°C in the Thar Desert, water supply in the region is a major challenge. As part of the project, a large and durable well was constructed. This provides a local village with water for daily needs and also allows for the watering of livestock. In total, around 40 families, comprising approximately 400 people, as well as around 1,000 farm animals, directly benefit from the project.
The well significantly reduces the distances that women and children, in particular, have to travel to fetch water. This reduces the daily physical and time expenditure and simultaneously improves hygiene and ensures a safe water supply. It also helps to reduce the risk of diseases caused by unclean water.
The reliable water supply also supports families in caring for their livestock, thus contributing to the protection of their livelihoods. The well represents a long-term, usable infrastructure and will continue to provide the community with an important water source in the future.
Our successes
Access to clean water has been created for around 400 people.
