A ration of hope
For thousands of families in the slums of Islamabad, a daily meal is not a given. Migrant families from the rural regions of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and Balochistan, who have moved to the capital in search of work, are particularly affected. Today, they live in the informal settlements of sectors F-12, G-12, D-13, and E-13 under extremely difficult conditions. Rising food prices, high inflation, and economic insecurity have made it nearly impossible for many families to even buy basic foodstuffs.
Day laborers, widows, orphans, people with disabilities, and low-income domestic workers face the daily dilemma of which of their basic needs they can afford. For many parents, this means they cannot provide their children with enough food every day.
Thanks to the generous project funding from Heike and Peter, Warm Hearts was able to implement the "A Ration of Hope" project. In July 2026, 25 particularly vulnerable families were selected and provided with a food package covering the basic needs of a household with an average of 7 to 10 people for approximately one month. This enabled direct support for around 250 people in total.
Contents of a food package:
5 kg rice
5 kg sugar
400 g tea
1 kg glass noodles
15 kg flour
4 kg lentils (1 kg each of: white chickpeas, red lentils/Masur, chickpeas/Chana, and mung lentils/Masur)
1 kg salt
350 g spices
3 kg cooking oil
1.5 liters soft drink
These carefully selected staple foods cover the essential needs of a household and allow families to sustain themselves for about a month without additional food expenses.
Our successes
25 families were provided with essential food supplies.
As part of the project, 25 food packages were distributed to particularly needy families. In total, around 250 people directly benefited from the support. The food ensured the families' basic needs were met and helped especially children, women, and the elderly during a time of great economic hardship.Acute financial burden noticeably reduced.
Since the costs for basic food supplies were eliminated for a month, families were able to use their limited financial resources for other essential expenses such as rent, medicine, or education. For many households, this meant much-needed relief.Hope and dignity bestowed.
"A Ration of Hope" was far more than just the distribution of food. The project gave families the feeling of not being forgotten. It provided security, hope, and dignity in a situation characterized by uncertainty and existential fear for many.
Each food parcel was a sign of solidarity and compassion. Thanks to the support of our donors , 25 families, comprising approximately 250 people, were reliably supplied with basic foodstuffs for a month. The project impressively demonstrated how targeted humanitarian aid can directly improve the daily lives of affected families and offer them new hope.
